Much of Lakewood was built in the decades after World War II, and many of those ranch houses are now on their third or fourth roof. When we tear off, we sometimes find two layers of shingles, or old wood shakes still under the asphalt. We take everything down to the decking so we can check the boards and fasten the new roof properly.

Low-pitched additions, carports and covered patios are common here, and some were roofed with shingles even though the slope is too shallow for them. Those sections leak first and often need a low-slope membrane instead.

The west side of the metro sees its share of spring and summer hail. After a storm, dented gutters and roof vents are an easy clue from the ground. If you see them, a roof inspection with photos tells you whether the shingles were hurt too, before you decide whether to call your insurer.
