Call (303) 555-0153What hail and wind do to a roof
Hail along the Front Range can range from pea-sized to larger than a golf ball. When it hits asphalt shingles, it can knock off granules, crack the mat underneath or leave soft bruises you can feel but barely see. That damage may not leak right away, but it shortens the life of the roof. Wind does a different kind of damage, lifting shingles, breaking the seal that holds them down and creasing them so they no longer lie flat. After a storm, dents in gutters, downspouts, vents and window screens are a good sign the roof took hits as well.
Check from the ground, not the ladder
Stay off the roof after a storm. Wet or hail-covered shingles are slippery, and damaged ones can break underfoot. Walk around the house and look for dented gutters and vents, shingle pieces in the yard, granules piling up at the downspouts and damage to cars or fences. Take dated photos. If water is coming in, put a bucket under it and call us for a tarp. Write down the date and time of the storm, because the insurer will ask.
How the insurance claim works
You, the homeowner, file the claim with your insurer. We do not file it for you, and the insurer decides what is covered. What we can do is inspect the roof, document the damage with photos and measurements and give you a written report. If you want us there, we can meet the adjuster on the roof to point out what we found. The adjuster then writes up an estimate, and your policy, its deductible and its terms decide what is paid. Some claims are approved in full, some in part and some are denied. Anyone who promises you a new roof at no cost before the insurer has looked at it cannot know that.
Colorado rules worth knowing
Colorado law does not allow a contractor to pay or waive your deductible, whether by a discount, a rebate or a credit for a sign in your yard. A contractor who offers to cover it is asking you to break the rules too. Your contract with a roofer should be in writing and should say what happens if the claim is denied. We are not a public adjuster and do not negotiate your claim, but we will answer questions about the damage and the repair as often as you need.
Repair or replace after a storm
Not every hailstorm means a new roof. If the damage is limited to one slope, a few shingles or the gutters and vents, a repair may be all that is needed. If the hits are spread across the whole roof, a full replacement is usually the better answer, and many homeowners use it as the moment to move up to Class 4 impact-resistant shingles. We give you a written price for the work, show you how it lines up with the adjuster's estimate and pull the permit when the job needs one.

They inspected after the June hail, gave us a photo report and met our adjuster on the roof. They were clear from the start that the claim was ours to file. We went with Class 4 shingles on the new roof.

We got ice dams every winter on the north side. Instead of just selling us heat cable, they fixed the attic ventilation and added insulation. No ice dams this year.

Wind took a section of shingles off at night and rain was coming in. They had a tarp on the next morning once the wind dropped and fixed it properly two days later. Wish it had been sooner, but they explained why.

FAQ
Hail & Storm Damage Repair questions
Will my insurance pay for a new roof after hail?
That depends on your policy and on what the adjuster finds. You file the claim, and the insurer decides what is covered. We can inspect the roof, document the damage with photos and meet the adjuster if you want us there.
Can a contractor cover my deductible?
No. Colorado law does not allow a contractor to pay or waive your deductible, including through rebates, discounts or credits for a yard sign. Be wary of anyone who offers to.
